25-02-10Obsidian Wireless becomes O2 Accelerator Partner
This new partnership will enable O2 to offer Obsidian’s Mobile Compliance Suite™ to its entire customer base, with particular focus on the financial sector initially, to maximise penetration of the solution throughout the UK and beyond.
Launched in 2004, the O2 Accelerator Programme selects companies based upon thorough financial, technological, marketing, and customer assessments, accepting only the very best products and applications developed by third parties. O2 provides Accelerator Partners with extensive sales, marketing and technical support, along with access to thousands of enterprise customers.
Ilona McMullan, O2's Business Applications Manager, commented, "Applications are one of the main reasons our customers use our network and services and we want to offer them the best available on the market. From email to complex business processes, partners accepted into the programme provide our customers with business critical solutions allowing them to save time, money and resource. Partners like Obsidian have solutions that are key in helping us meet our strategy of bringing the top mobile solutions to our customers."
2010 is being seen in the industry seen as the year when financial organisations start to take the implementation of mobile compliance strategies seriously. This is happening because financial organisations have finally accepted that traders are using mobile devices to discuss transactions, and also because these organisations are accepting that forthcoming FSA regulations around mobile recording are about to become are a reality. David Brown, Chief Operating Officer for Obsidian Wireless explains further:
“FSA regulated banks and brokerages already have to record and archive calls, emails and messages sent from within the fixed network environment, and it makes sense for this to incorporate mobile communications, now that the technology is available. We have been developing and improving our Mobile Compliance Suite™ since 2007 and we have also been in regular discussions with major financial organisations in the City of London since that time, to keep them updated on latest developments.”
Paul Liesching, Chief Executive Officer of Obsidian Wireless, added:
“This agreement will support O2’s customer retention activity, whilst also increasing the potential revenue stream. This will be achieved in two ways – firstly through additional monthly revenue from mobile recording charges and secondly by giving their customer organisations the ability to ‘unlock’ devices, allowing a broader range of communication from each handset and so generating additional network revenue.”
Organisations will naturally turn to their mobile network and handset provider for a mobile recording solution, so Obsidian Wireless will also benefit significantly from this new partnership, with O2 forming a major new sales channel for MCS™, as David concludes:
“MCS™ can be implemented and used anywhere in the world, so the fact that O2 is a global player provides an added advantage to both companies. Having one of the largest organisations in the world of mobile communications on side will massively expand the uptake of this rapidly-emerging technology – so we predict a bright future for Mobile Compliance Suite™ and for Obsidian Wireless in 2010 and beyond.”
